SCVO is hosting
a short briefing on the implications of the new law which aims to improve our
security against potential terrorist attempts.
The Terrorism
(Protection of Premises) Act 2025, also known as Martyn’s Law, will require
that people responsible for certain premises and events consider how they would
respond to a terrorist attack.
Much of the Law
will focus on venues holding more than 200 people, but there are implications
for everyone who hosts groups of any size in a community venue, and people who
hire venues for events.
Whilst it won’t
come into force for more than a year, the briefing will look at what changes
and preparations we may need to make.
The
straight-talking online briefing on Wednesday 24 September will
be led by local Risk Management company MoRServ Ltd who have been following the
progress of Martyn’s Law from conception.
Director Chris
Dowen said there’s no need to panic and jump in with changes before details of
the legislation have been revealed completely:
“We are
finding, through our discussions at webinars, with clients, and through wider
research, that organisations are worried about what Martyn’s Law means to them
and are starting to prepare now. Our advice would be that Martyn’s Law should
be seen as part of your wider Safety and Security Preparedness and Response,
and that the Martyn’s Law Government guidance will help, so waiting for this to
be released before implementing your Counter Terrorism response would be the
most sensible response.”
