NHS England and Barnardo’s have co-designed an exciting new initiative for young people aged 7-14. Developed and piloted last year with over 500 children and young people, the NHS Young People’s Health Challenge comprises 63 engaging activities over 3 toolkits, arranged around 7 key themes:
- About the NHS
- Make your voice heard
- Give back to the NHS
- Healthy Mind
- Jobs
- Caring for myself and others
- Healthy body
The Black Country has been selected as one of the areas nationally that will work with Barnardo’s and NHS England to trial the Young People’s Health Challenge.
This project follows on from the fantastic partnership work with the Barnardo's Children's Services Team, nearly 4000 young people took part in a number of consultations to influence the local health services they use. Lots of connections have been made, feedback has been collated as a result of this work, and its hoped to continue to engage meaningfully and collaboratively to create a Youth Charter.
The toolkits can be used in various settings including schools, youth groups, within health settings or alongside other youth voice opportunities. By taking part in these challenges, young people will:
- Learn more about health and wellbeing
- Understand how to support your own and others’ wellbeing
- Discover how everyday actions can help the NHS
- Explore how you can give back to the NHS
- Find out about different careers and jobs in the NHS
- Take action to support the NHS
This is a fantastic opportunity for our 7-14 year olds to get involved in fun, educational and empowering activities. Teachers, youth group leaders and youth workers in the Black Country who would like to use these fantastic resources with their groups are being sought!
