We are providing emotional wellbeing support and counselling to children and young people from newly arrived communities (refugee, asylum seeking and NRPF families and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children).

This is a Sandwell only project and for UASCs/Care leavers supported by Sandwell Children’s Trust. Delivery includes additional Family Support hours and a UASC engagement worker.

Over 12 months we intend to enhance our existing health, wellbeing and family support offer via outreach, joint work with Sandwell Children’s Trust and with families/UASCs who use our centre in Smethwick.

Support includes:
- Focused family assessments addressing issues that impact family wellbeing e.g. benefits/ housing/ immigration status and identification of children and young people who would may benefit from emotional wellbeing support in house or via referral
- Provision of 1-1 counselling for 8 weeks, delivered at our centre or a venue best suited to CYPs needs, via Open Minds Therapy Centre
- Provision of group Arts for Health therapy sessions for CYP identified through the 'Strengths and Difficulties' assessment.
- Weekly advice and assessment drop-in service for unaccompanied asylum seeking children supported by Sandwell Childrens Trust, at various outreach locations. We are working with these young people to link them into our existing 5 ways to wellbeing support including sporting, social and health awareness activities.
- A monthly UASC group running at our Smethwick centre, providing a range of activities that build on 5 ways to wellbeing and offering advice, support and social connection for UASCs.
